Honor Flight Brings History Lessons to Life
Before first light on Nov. 4, the 18th mission of the Hudson Valley Honor Flight departed from Stewart International Airport to a rousing send-off from pipes and drums, and hundreds of flag-waving well-wishers. Bound for the war memorials in Washington, D.C., 86 veterans – 10 from World War II, 74 from the Korean War, and two from the Vietnam War – were honored for their service and sacrifice. Among them was Kenneth Penfield Jr. of Newburgh, accompanied by his volunteer guardian Michele Grabiec, fifth-grade teacher at Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary School in Cuddebackville.
